Here are some more pictures of S.Carlo sq. (25-02-2005) Diggings out are going on.But..another wall!! A TOWER has been pulled down(the famous roman house of the newspaper's article).but surprises never end.Now the side of wall appears ,as long as the square,as you can see at the base of columns.What do these columns lay on? For the moment it remains a mistery. Here too we can see traces of the wall with bricks pushed anywhere by the excavators. Pity that Roman or ante... |

Another interesting wall, not yet pulled down. This wall seems to have been
restructured in its higher part,but underneath
we can see the typical bricks of roman or
medieval epoch walls.
In this picture we can see it better. We don't know yet if this ancient wall will be considered of archaeological value or if it will be pulled down to make place for the cars of the Commune's employee. Here remains, ignored, a tunnel still not completely destroied.The superior part, in cement, has already been ruined (during the fascista epoch) but the lower part is in bricks only and so ancient; at least of sabauda epoch. |

This angular structure is interesting too. You can see the ancient walls very well. I don't know if these will become"historical photographs" or if this structure will be preserved...who ever knows.. |

CARTIGLIO!
It is appeared a Cartiglio of the Commune, semi-hidden on the columns of Via Roma's arcade. It seems to be full of promises! The recently appeared Cartiglio. The
virtual panoramic view seems to be nice and
full of promises!
But I can't find cars or means of
transport.. .
Will
the square be still travelable or will it
become limited to the foot traffic?
Do
the grilles on the sides of the square permit
the passage of heavy trucks in case of
emergency?
...I mean firemen, vehicles to repair
houses' fronts or cornices, and so on...
Has
the standard 626 on the security of the
project been correctly verified?
The
Cartiglio doesn't say it.
Another curiosity: will the beginning
using stones of Luserna result as in Piazza
Castello, where, also in absence of heavy
traffic, it all goes in pieces? Or will it be
as the recently paved roads, that need to be
remade every six months(nearly)?
The pavement of roads doesn't seem to
be so durable as in the past(not tens of
years, nor hundreds. Are the modern tecniques
efficient only with asphalt?
It seems that the citizens of Torino will have the possibility to go out for a walk down in the parking and then continue the "historical" walk down again in the anti-airplane refuge. In reality,this was not built for that purpose since the war ,at that time ,was far and the bombing of the town was not estimated. The underground passage was built in the expectation of a future Underground. But these are obviously only "voices of people". ..will the Torinesi citizens be able to visit the Sabaude galleries since they have been closed by the perimetral walls of the parking? ...the bridge of 1616,specially built for the Queen,(as from the newspapers'article)seems to have been already destroied in 1640!!(as we can deduce from this Cartiglio). In fact the arcade and the square appear in the print of the first page(coming from an antecedent drawing). ...this"bridge"of sabauda epoch,built up for the queen,doesn't convince me. Only now they talk about a "Vallo" but at the beginning of the works these news were considered only as "tales". And it too seems that in roman epoch houses were built in places where towers for the defence were supposed
